Ordering magisterial probe not enough, says NC

SRINAGAR: National Conference (NC) on Monday condemned what it termed as “disproportionate and wanton use of lethal force on unarmed civilians” and said that a magisterial enquiry into killing of civilians in Pulwama was not enough.
NC General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar said a “mere magisterial inquiry cannot suffice” given the nature and enormity of the tragedy.
He demanded a high-level judicial probe into the incident that resulted in the death of two young civilians and injuries to many others.
“NC demands a judicial probe into this incident and that the findings be made public in a time-bound manner. Any attempt to subvert the truth would be highly regrettable. Responsibility should be fixed and the guilty should be punished”, the NC General Secretary said in a statement.
The party condemned the disproportionate and wanton use of lethal force on unarmed civilians and said that “incidents like these discredited the principles of democracy and peace.”
