Delhi police detains SAR Geelani in connection with JNU protests on Afzal Guru

SRINAGAR: Police has detained Delhi university professor SAR Geelani on Monday in connection with the JNU protests on Afzal Guru that has created uproar in India.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Jatin Narwal told Kashmir Reader over phone that Geelani was detained for questioning in connection with the JNU protests at parliament street police station.
Geelani, a convict in 2001 Indian parliament attack case, was picked by police outside his residence in New Delhi this morning. Police has registered a sedition case against Geelani for being the main organiser of an event at Delhi’s Press Club of India for allegedly shouting anti-India slogans to protest the hanging of Afzal Guru.
Police has already arrested JNU student union president Kanhaiya Kumar, whose three days judicial remand was extended to two more days by a Delhi court today. Students have been protesting and skipping their class for the release of their president. The university professors have already extended their support for the release of Kumar.
