Pampore: Police has seized about 1 kg of adulterated saffron and arrested two persons at Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, a police official said.
“Two persons identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Rasool Dar and Showket Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Mohd Dar residents of Befina Pampore were arrested with I kg of adulterated saffron,” he said.
A case FIR 20/2016 has been registered under section 272, 420 and 120B RPC in police station Pampore, he added.
Meanwhile, Station House Officer (SHO) Pampore, Manzoor Ahmad Beigh in a meeting with members of All Saffron Growers Development Co-operative Marketing Association assured them that police would not tolerate adulteration of saffron and said they would crack down the adulterators.
President, All Saffron Growers Association Abdul Majeed Wani hailed the steps taken by the police in curbing saffron adulteration and identifying culprits involved in bringing bad name to the trade.
The association has urged police to take the task forward so that the town regains the lost dignity that it held in the saffron trade earlier.
