Pulwama Killings: Thousands attend funeral for slain civilians

Pulwama: Thousands attend funeral prayers for two civilians who were killed in police firing on Sunday amid anti-India slogans in their native villages.
In two separate funerals held at Ratnipura and Lelhar on Sunday evening, huge number of people from local and adjacent villages attended the funeral prayers and bid farewell to the duo.
Two civilians, including a 22-year-old girl, were killed and 12 others were injured Sunday afternoon after police opened fire at them.
The slain civilians were identified as Danish Rashid son of Abdul Rashid resident of Ratnipura Pulwama and a girl Shaista Hamid daughter of Abdul Hamid Bhat of Lelhar in the district. Danish and Shaista were taken to district hospitals, Pampore and Pulwama, where the doctors declared them dead.
The incidents triggered heavy stone-pelting near the encounter site and people were chanting anti-India and pro-freedom slogans. Around 12 persons were injured in stone-pelting incidents; some of them have been identified as, Imran son of Abdul Rashid of Lelhar, Mohammad Rafiq son Abdul Gani of Samboora, Suhail Ahmad Mir son of Bashir Ahmad Mir of Kakapora and Altaf Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Raheem Dar of lelhar.
Earlier, militant was killed in the district during a gunfight. A Police official said an on going encounter; a local militant was killed identifying him as Adil Ahmad of Kakapora, Pulwama.
Police and Special Operations Group cordoned the area after receiving a tip off about the presence of militants in Khanday Mohalla in the district.
