SRINAGAR: Clashes erupted on Friday afternoon in parts of old Srinagar, with the government forces using tear smoke and pepper gas to disperse the protesters.
After the Friday prayers, youths assembled outside Jamia Masjid at Nowhata and at Hawal. Carrying green flags and shouting pro-freedom slogans, they attempted to take out protest rallies.
Subsequently, the protesters started throwing stones at the government forces deployed in the areas, triggering clashes. The forces responded by firing tear smoke and pepper gas.
The clashes continued till evening.
