Rafiabad shuts on Ubaid’s 3rd death anniversary

Baramulla: A complete shutdown was observed in Watergam, Rafiabad, here on Wednesday on the third death anniversary of Ubaid Mushtaq Rather.

The teenager was killed by the government forces a day after Afzal Guru was hanged in 2013. He was a resident of Watergam.
Then a student of 9th class, Ubaid was killed when paramilitary CRPF fired over the people protesting the execution of Guru.
The local police also registered an FIR against CRPF, but there was no follow up action.
All shops, business establishments, private offices, and petrol pumps, in the entire area remained closed.
A number of people from Watergam and its adjourning areas assembled at the main chowk and offered special prayers for Ubaid and other martyrs.
