Pak announces T20, Asia Cup Squad; Shahzad, Gul dropped

Srinagar: Pakistan Cricket Board on Wednesday announced the 15-man squad for the World Twenty20 to be played in India. Opening batsman Ahmed Shehzad and fast-bowler Umar Gul have been dropped from the team, a Pak national daily reported.
All-rounder Mohammad Nawaz and fast bowler Rumman Raees have been given a chance for their brilliant performance in an on-going Pakistan Super League (PSL) in United Arab Emirate (UAE). Khurram Manzoor, who played a Test match for Pakistan in 2014, has also been included in the squad.
“While picking the squad, the team management and skipper were consulted by the selectors, and all concerned gave their consent in this regard,” chief selector Haroon Rasheed said.
“The T20 team has been selected keeping in mind the conditions during Asia cup and World T20 and the recent performances of some players in domestic and A Team tours. The team is a fine blend of experience and youth and the selectors believe that team will do well in both tournaments,” he said.
The Asia Cup is scheduled to be held between February 24 to March 6, followed by the World T20, starting from March 8 in India. The squad for the Asia Cup and the World T20 is as follows:
Shahid Afridi (captain), Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Irfan, Shoaib Malik, Rumman Raees, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Nawaz, Babar Azam, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Amir, Umar Akmal, Sarfraz Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Anwar Ali, Khurram Manzoor.
