SRINAGAR: Awami Itihad Party (AIP) is going to organise a seminar on the execution of Afzal Guru and Maqbool Bhat on Wednesday.
“A seminar titled ‘Why Selective Hangings’ will be organised at Lala Rukh hotel, Srinagar,” a spokesman of the party said on Tuesday.
According to the statement, AIP’s president and legislator, Abdul Rashid, asked New Delhi and its “proxies” in J&K to introspect as to why Kashmiris observe shutdowns on the execution anniversaries of Bhat and Guru.
“Had Afzal Guru been a terrorist, at least the so-called mainstream political parties could have managed to get half a dozen people in Lal Chowk or somewhere else to celebrate the day. But from Karnah to Kishtwar, everyone is mourning the death, and condemning India for the hanging.
“The anger and sentiments of every Kashmiri is ample proof that they respect Afzal and Maqbool the same way Indians respect Subash Chander Bose, Bhagat Singh, and Sukh Dev,” Rashid said.
