SRINAGAR: Hosts- Jammu & Kashmir beat Uttar Pradesh by a solitary goal in their North Zone qualifying preliminary league matches of 70th Senior National Football Championship (Santosh Trophy) played at Jammu on Saturday.
The game saw both J&K and UP battling hard for the goals and the quality of sport was quite intense with both teams not ready to concede an inch. The scoreline remain 0-0 at the end of first half.
In the second half host J&K gave exhibition of aggressive game coupled with solid defence and in the 70th minute of the game took the lead when mid-fielder Gautam Meher put the ball in the net.For the majority of 90 minutes of play, host’s had pressed attacking button to make continuous advances on the UP goal post from both flanks but failed to find the net as they missed many chances as LSKFC lacked the finishing touches.
Though UP made several moves to score equalizer but J&K showed strong defence to thwart any chances by UP to find the equalizer and, J&K maintained the lead till the final whistle blew.
