SRINAGAR: Shops and other business establishments were closed in Lal Chowk, Maisuma, Regal Chowk, Dalgate and some other areas in response to a call given by a faction of a traders’ organisation, which accuses the government of failing to rehabilitate the flood-hit traders.
However, the call evoked little or no response in other areas of Srinagar, as another faction of Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Association, had dissociated itself from the protest.
President of KMTF (Rather faction) Sajid Baqal had announced on Monday that a complete shutdown will be observed on Tuesday and the protests will be intensified if their demands are not met.
However, the faction led by Mohammad Yasin Khan had announced that it had not called for any strike.
Khan told Kashmir Reader that barring a few areas, all business establishments remained open.
While ruling out rivalry with the other faction, Khan said a shutdown does not make sense at a time when there is no civilian government in the state.
