ANANTNAG: A CRPF officer was injured when militants fired at government forces during a search operation in Arwani village of Bijbehara area in Anantnag district.
Army, special operation group (SOG) of police and CRPF had besieged the village on Tuesday evening, after receiving information about the presence of militants.
The militants hiding there opened fire and also threw a grenade at the forces, injuring sub-inspector Bardan. He was immediately removed to sub-district hospital Bijbehara for treatment.
A para-medic posted in the hospital said the officer has splinter injuries in his hips, adding his condition is stable.
After the attack, the forces tightened the siege to prevent the militants from escaping, a police officer said on condition of anonymity.
“We are conducting searches to locate them but so far we have not been able to find them,” the officer said.
