CAPD realizes Rs 1.6 lakh as fine during market checking

SRINAGAR: The Enforcement squad of Consumer Affairs and Public distribution during its three week long market checking in various areas of Srinagar city during the last three weeks has collected a fine of Rs I lakh from230 erring shopkeepers.
The squads that conducted checks in areas like, Darish Kadal, Rajbagh, Karan Nagar, Zadibal, Lal Bazar, Shivpora, Sonwar, Rainawari, Nowhatta, Eidgah, Soura, Bemina, Nowgam, Pantha Chowk, Allochi Bagh, Chattabal, Hazratbal, Batmaloo, Tengpora Bypass, HMT, Saida Kadal, Zaina Kadal, Naseem Bagh, Natipora, Airport, Barbar Shah, Rawalpora, Qamarwari, Ellahi Bagh, 90 Feet Soura, Hari Singh High Street, KMD Lal Chowk, Dalgate, Shalimar. Harwan, Nagbal, Alamgari Bazar, Ahmad Nagar.
During market checking about 1340 business establishments were inspected and a penal sum of Rs. 1, 69,400 was collected as fine from 230 erring shopkeepers for violation of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.

    Is there any provision in Essential Commodities Act -to collect fine- if not, I think then it is without authority of law- so verify the same from govt authorities & publish the facts
