SRINAGAR: Fish production in the state has touches 20,000 ton mark with the fisheries department has established 416 carp units and 296 trout units in the state.
This was disclosed by fisheries officials during a meet with Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon, on Monday while reviewing the functioning of Fisheries department.
The officials said that the department has established 416 carp units and 296 trout units in the state while the seed production reached 450 million in carp and 9 million in trout last year.
Samoon stressed on expansion of trout rearing unit in Verinag and directed the officials to acquire more land for the existing farm.
During the meeting, the officials said a proposal is being mooted for providing assistance of Rs 1000 per month to Shikara wallas for helping the department in watch and ward.
Meanwhile, Samoon asked the Fisheries department to seek assistance of GoI in setting up the National Fisheries Institute in the state.
