Srinagar: Chairman Jammu Kashmir National Front and senior Hurriyat (G) leader, Nayeem Ahmad Khan on Wednesday said by conferring award to Jagmohan, India has proved that it is at “war against Kashmiris” and it does not lose any opportunity to hurt and insult them.
“Giving awards to killers like Jagmohan and Mome Kane, India is disrespecting its national awards,” Khan said in a statement issued here.
He said conferring of Padma award to Jagmohan is a malicious attempt to hurt the sentiments of majority of people of the state.
“Jagmohan is responsible for mass murders of civilians in Gawkadal, Hawal, Handwara, Kupwara, Zakura, Byepass, Bijbehara, Anantnag, Sopore and Baramulla,” Khan said, adding, “Conferring award to such persons speaks volumes about the ethics of India.”
“Jagmohan is also known for long curfews, crackdowns and eviction of Pandits. “By awarding him, India has exhibited its utter hate against Kashmiris who know Jagmohan as a murderer and a conspirator,” Khan said.
Khan said it is shameful that Jagmohan is awarded and his victims are waiting for justice.
He said people of Kupwara even today remember the innocent 27 persons who were killed on the directions of then governor on January 27, 1994 for observing shutdown on Indian republic day.
Paying tributes to martyrs of Kupwara, Khan said: “India may award the killers of Kashmiris but Kashmiris stand firm on their demand of freedom. People like Jagmohan could not kill the sentiments of Kashmiris who will continue to nourish the sentiment of freedom even after being massacred.”
He also paid tributes to Mushtaq Ahmad Haroo of Poshwara Anantnag who was martyred by government forces in Kokernag on Tuesday.
