Srinagar: Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Information department on Saturday expressed grief over the dermises of former direction information, Ghulam Ali Bakshi.
Bakshi headed the state Information department in late seventies and early eighties.
An official handout issued here said that Mufti, in his condolence message, “spoke highly about contributions of the late officer during his tenure as state Information department between the late seventies and early eighties.”
Mufti, it said, expressed sympathy with the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul.
Meanwhile, Director General Information & Public Relations, Zaffar Ahmad Bhat, also expressed grief over the demise.
An official handout issued here said a condolence meeting was held at the Directorate of Information & PR office here.
Bhat recalled the “immense contribution” of Bakshi in making Information department a “thoroughly professional organisation in dissemination of news”.
“Two-minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect to the departed soul by the staff members of the Information department,” it said.
Expressing grief over the demise, the Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar, said Bakshi was a “thorough gentleman” who spent most of his career in the Information department.
“Bakshi Ghulam Ali was from the Information Service and he had worked in different capacities in the department, including as Information Officer, as PRO at Kashmir Bureau of Information, New Delhi, as Deputy Director Information and Director Information,” Akhtar said.
