Moderate to heavy rains expected in J&K

Srinagar: Moderate to heavy rains, with fresh snowfall over the higher reaches, are expected during the next four days in the state, the MeT office said on Friday. “A western disturbance is approaching Jammu and Kashmir and is likely to affect the state from Saturday afternoon to October 27 (Tuesday) forenoon. Under the influence of this weather system, moderate to heavy rain or thundershowers, and snowfall over the higher reaches, will occur at many places,” Director Meteorological Department Sonam Lotus said in a weather advisory.
“This weather condition may trigger landslides and blockage of roads in vulnerable areas of the state, particularly along Srinagar-Jammu, Srinagar-Leh and Leh-Manali highways,” he said, adding that the weather system may also disrupt surface and air transport.
