Jammu: A civilian was killed during an exchange of firing between Indian and Pakistani troopers along the International Border in Jammu region.
“At about 5pm, Pakistan Rangers started unprovoked firing, targeting BSF Naka mound and civilian labourer in the Samba sector, who were carrying out construction work of culvert well inside the Indian territory,” a BSF spokesman said.
The BSF gave a befitting reply to the Pakistani firing, he said. As per initial reports, three civilians working on the construction of the culvert received bullet injuries, the BSF spokesman said.
Samba senior superintendent of police Joginder Singh said that one of the injured died on way to the hospital where the other injured were undergoing treatment.
Several civilians have been killed during cross border firing along the IB and the Line of Control during the past few months. Both countries blame each other for starting firing.
