SRINAGAR: The governor and chief minister of the state on Friday paid tributes to Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and other martyrs of Karbala.
In an official handout issued here on the eve of Aashoor-e-Muharram, Governor N N Vohra said that Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions sacrificed their lives for upholding the high values of truth, justice and righteousness.
Their martyrdom reminds mankind of the high principles of human dignity and morality, he said, and “prayed for peace, harmony and normalcy” in the state.
In his message, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said the incident of Karbala “teaches us a lesson of upholding the principles of righteousness in all trying circumstances, and denying forces of evil to make us bow or succumb before them”.
“The unparalleled courage, sacrifice, and patience exhibited by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions at Karbala was beacon of light for Muslims, and would continue to enlighten and guide the whole of mankind forever,” he said.
Mufti said, “The very act of sacrifice teaches us steadfastness for supremacy of the truth and our unity would be the biggest tribute to Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions.”
Meanwhile, Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti also paid tributes to the martyrs of Karbala.
She urged the people to follow the martyrs’ principles “to ensure a just society, which believes in equal rights for everyone and symbolises love for each other”.
She said the supreme sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions highlight the unmatched courage and patience demonstrated by them.
“The lesson (taught by) Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions …is the guiding light for the entire Muslim ummah,” she added.
