Srinagar: Department of Agriculture (Baramulla) on Friday held a one-day inter-valley farmers’ tour to expose them to the new technological advancements in the field of agriculture.
In a statement, an official spokesman said that under the under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna 2015-2016, 50 were taken to the research fields of vegetables and other crops at SKUAST- K.
“The farmers interacted with the scientists at the university and were given the knowhow about the latest varieties and techniques adopted for increasing their production.”
The official said that the farmers were later taken to the Agriculture Complex Lalmandi where director agriculture, Kashmir, Altaf Aijaz Andrabi interacted with them. “The director advised the farmers to adopt the latest techniques as per the recommended package of practices, balanced dose of fertilizers and use of quality certified seeds provided to them by the department,” the official said.
The farmers appreciated the role of the department for organising tours and requested the director to increase the number of such tours and awareness programmes so that the farmer get well versed with the farmer friendly schemes and latest technologies to be adopted by them to increase their production and productivity, he added.
