Pony owners hit by accidents during yatra paid compensation

Srinagar: Governor N N Vohra on Thursday paid Rs 28-lakh compensation to 94 pony owners who lost their animals in accidents during Amaranth yatra this year.
An official handout issued here said they were paid cheques in a function held at the Raj Bhavan here. “The owners were given Rs 30,000 for each pony or horse killed in an accident,” it said.
Interacting with the owners, Vohra lauded their “cooperation and contribution” in facilitating the pilgrims and making the annual Hindu pilgrimage “a successful event” every year.
Stating that pony owners were “an important part of the pilgrimage”, he said he had directed the CEO to ensure that all their insurance claims were settled without any delay.
