SRINAGAR: Fire engulfed a building in Lal Chowk’s Goni Khan market late on Tuesday night. According to the police, the building comprised of shops. “The three-storied building housed around 17 shops and all of them have been damaged in the accident,” an official of the fire and emergency department said.
No casualties were reported, though shopkeepers have incurred heavy losses. “A loss of around Rs 2 crore has been estimated,” the official added.
The fire and emergency department received a call at 11:45 pm and fire tenders were dispatched to the spot immediately. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
