Youth critically injured as clashes break out in Bijbehara

Anantnag: A youth has been critically injured in clashes between the government forces and protesters in Bijbehara town of this south Kashmir district.

Groups of youth defied government imposed curbs in Zirpara area here this afternoon and staged pro-freedom and anti-India demonstrations to protest the murder of Zahid Rasool Bhat, a trucker by the activists of Hindu fanatic groups, witnesses told Kashmir Reader.

Besides chanting slogans, the protesters also threw stones at the CRPF and police men, who were deployed in the town to thwart any protests.

“The government forces burst teargas canisters after they failed to disperse protesters with batons. The protesters, however regrouped and continued stone pelting,” witnesses said.

They said that the clashes soon spread to the other areas of the town.

One youth, whose identity could not be ascertained has suffered serious  injuries in head in the clashes. He was removed to the sub district hospital, Bijbehara. However, the doctors referred him to SKIMS, Srinagar for treatment.

The clashes have intensified in the township, witnesses said. More details emerging
