Restrictions imposed in Anantnag to scuttle protests

Anantnag: Restrictions were imposed today in this south Kashmir Township fearing widespread protests against the murder of a trucker by the activists of fanatic Hindu groups in Udhampur.

Witnesses told Kashmir Reader that CRPF troopers and police were deployed in huge numbers across the town; a day after violent protests erupted between angry youth and the government leaving nearly a dozen people injured.

Donning riot gear and carrying automatic rifles, forces maintained tight vigil on the movement of the civilians here.

In Batengoo, the native village of slain trucker Zahid Rasool Bhat, forces were on their toes to thwart any protests.

Heavy deployment of forces has also been made in nearby Bijbehara town, where many protesters were wounded in clashes with government forces.

Meanwhile, a police officer said that no restrictions have been put in police but the forces have been deployed to maintain law and order.
