Srinagar: Only 45 per cent of the power consumers in Kashmir are metered while the percentage of metered consumers in Jammu is 58.
The documents produced by power development department(PDD) in the State Assembly have revealed the department’s dismal performance in terms of meter installation across the state.
The districts of Budgam and Kulgam in Kashmir have the least coverage with 86 percent of their households without electricity meters.
The documents revealed that only merge 6,850 consumers have got their meters installed out of 52,005 consumers in Kulgam while in Budgam only 9,843 consumers have meters installed out of the total 75,034.
Srinagar ranks highest with 66 percent metering achieved in the district till August this year. This is almost equal to Jammu district where 24 percent consumers are still unmetered.
However in the Jammu province 42 percent of registered PDD consumers are still unmetered.
Kishtwar has the lowest metering in Jammu with only 30 percent coverage. However, Samba district in the province has 80 percent of its consumers metered till August 2014.
