Jammu: Fourteen people, six of them women, died and 17 others were injured in a road accident in Dalsar area of Udhampur district.
An official spokesman said that a 24-seater mini bus carrying 31 passengers skidded off the road and rolled into a gorge, killing 14 people. Of the 17 injured, seven are said to be critical. Three of the injured have been admitted to a military hospital, while an infant has been shifted to the Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu.
Deputy commissioner Udhampur Shahid Iqbal Choudhary said he “fears more deaths”.
The district administration has provided Rs 1 lakh each to the next of the kin of the deceased and Rs 5000 each to the injured except one who has been given Rs 10000.
Choudhary also said that about 50 local youth helped in the rescue and saved many lives.
