Sikhs protest in B’la against desecration of holy book

BARAMULLA: Scores of people belonging to Sikh community on Sunday held a protest here in Baramulla town against the desecration of their holy book in Punjab.
The protesters blocked the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road near Mana,k shouting slogans against the BJP government. They demanded that the culprits should be given exemplary punishment. The protesters dispersed after a team of Baramulla police reached the spot.
The Sikhs had also staged protests on Saturday in Srinagar after pages of Guru Granth sahib were found torn in Punjab early this week.
They also set ablaze two effigies to denounce Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for his alleged failure to bring the culprits to book.
The Sikh youth were carrying religious flags, placards and banners reading “Khalistan Zindabad” and “minorities unsafe in India”.
At least two people were killed and nearly 70 injured, including police officials, on Wednesday in clashes between police and Sikhs near Kotkapura town in Faridkot district of Punjab.
