SRINAGAR: A five wicket haul by Arsalan helped Downtown Tigers to register a 16 run victory over Jawahar Housing Hawks in the on-going Khyber Big Downtown Champions League match played at Kashmir University ground on Sunday.
Fast bowler Arsalan bowled a fiery spell of four over’s and claimed five wickets up front. He bowled to a certain plan and did not allow Hawks batsman to free their arms while the bowlers from other side especially Mehjoor Sofi did exceedingly well to mount the pressure.
It was a terrible batting show from the Hawks batsman as they failed to scale down a target of 142. Hawks openers were back in the pavilion in the fourth over of their inning with just 20 runs on the board.
Only middle order batsman Arjumand showed some resistance and scored a well made 44 that include four boundaries and one six.
Hawks batsmen got starts but failed to continue as they threw away their wickets courtesy some poor shot selection and the entire Hawks team was bundled out for 126.
For Hawks Tariq lone took two wickets while rest of the bowlers took one each.
Earlier Downtown Tigers skipper won the toss and on a perfect batting wicket preferred to bat first.
Downtown Tigers received the set back as their four front line batsmen were back in the hut with just 32 on the board. Sajad Gani then played sensibly and with middle order batsman Muzzafar added a valuable 82 run stand for fifth wicket. Sajad and Arsalan were jointly declared man of the match.
Sajad then played sensibly and was middling the ball well and scored 59 runs from 33 balls that included five boundaries and one hit over the fence. Down the order Adil Khan played a 15 ball cameo cracking 32 runs to help his side to pile up a formidable score of 141 runs on the board.
In the second match of the day Alhamzah Super Kings were handed walkover after Ghani Gliders did not report at the ground.
