Woman allegedly burnt by sisters-in-law succumbs

Pulwama: A woman, who was allegedly burnt by her in-laws in a village in the neighbouring Kulgam district last week, succumbed to her injuries at a hospital in Srinagar on Saturday morning.
43-year-old Haneefa Begum, wife of Mohammad Shafi Dar of Damidulla, Yaripora died at the SMHS hospital, Srinagar a week after she was admitted for 80 percent burns, a senior police official said today. The woman was allegedly facing harassment at the hands of her two sister-in-laws.
Both of them identified as Mehfooza and Fancy Jan have been arrested.
SHO Yaripora Mohammad Ashraf told Kashmir Reader that both the sisters-in-law of the victim have been arrested and sent to Srinagar’s Central Jail on judicial remand.
He said that a case Fir No 86/2015 under sections 307 and 498 A RPC have been registered in this regard.
“The body of the deceased will be handed over to her legal heirs for last rites after completion of formalities,” Ashraf said.
