Soldiers beat RPF men in moving train, 1 arrested

Ambala: Two Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel were hospitalized after being allegedly beaten up by a group of army men in a moving train near Ambala Cantonment railway station here.

Soldiers allegedly thrashed RPF constable Satish and head constable Mohamad after a travelling ticket examiner (TTE) had heated exchange of words with the army men over the payment of tickets in Delhi bound Sampark Kranti Express, during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, The Times of India reported.

“It all happened when train was about to reach the Ambala junction. When the army men hurriedly boarded Sampark Kranti Express after missing Rajdhani Express and refused to pay for their journey. TTE warned them of strict action. Instead of paying for the tickets, they attacked us,” alleged RPF personnel.

Both the RPF men were hospitalized after the train reached Ambala Cantonment station.

An Army man identified as Ramesh Kumar has been arrested. He has been handed over to the military police,” Brijpal, station house officer of Ambala Government Railway Police told TOI.

Kumar, who is posted at Srinagar denied his involvement in the scuffle with RPF men.

“I was not among those who were involved in the clash. I had paid the money for the journey. Other soldier from our group got into a scuffle with the TTE after refusing to pay for the ticket,” he said.
