Three army men injured in Kupwara blast

Kupwara: At least three army men were injured in a blast in the main town of Kupwara on Wednesday afternoon. Reports said panic gripped the area after the blast near the office of the ‘town commander’, 41 RR.
Shopkeepers and people ran for safety while three army men posted near the camp received minor injuries in the blast. Sources said dozens of civilian vehicles and shops lost their window panes in the blast, but injuries to civilians were reported.
Soon after the incident, a large number of army, SOG and other security agencies reached the spot and cordoned off the area and started a search operation. There were no reports of any arrests.
Deputy Inspector General of Police north Kashmir Gareeb Das confirmed that personnel of the RR were injured in the blast and said an investigation has been started. “The initial reports said it was hand grenade hurled by someone but other reports said it was some other explosion; we are investigating the matter,” he said.
