JK reconstitutes Consumer Protection Council

SRINAGAR: The state government on Tuesday reconstituted Jammu and Kashmir State Consumer Protection Council (SCPC).
According to a notification issued by the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) department, the Minister for CAPD, Choudhary Zulfkar Ali will be chairman of the new Consumer Council while the Secretary to Government for CAPD department, Saurabgh Bhagat, will be its Member Secretary.
The members of the council include several prominent legislators and business personalities from Kashmir as well as Jammu divisions of the state. The legislators who have been nominated members of the council include MLA Javaid Hassan Beigh, MLCs Javaid Mirchal and Vikramidtya Singh. Besides, ex-MLA Shanti Devi will also be its member.
From the business fraternity, President Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat Karpal Dev Sharma, ex-corporators Om Khajuria and Manish Gupta, President Consumer Protection Organisation D R Danish, President Consumer Welfare Organisation Jammu Vikram Gour, Advocate Manzoor Hussain Shah, President Jamia Masjid Traders Association Mushtaq Ahmad Daryal, Advocate Seema Shekhar Khajuria, ex-President KCCI Sheikh Ashiq, President Retailers Association Jammu Yashpal Gupta, and President Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu Rakesh Gupta will be its members.
Bashir Ahmad Mir of Kangan, Nazir Ahmad Yatoo of Chrar-e-Sharief, and Bharat Kumar of Channi Jammu have also been nominated as its members.
In March this year, the ruling coalition had announced that the consumer protection forum will be reconstituted to redress grievances of the consumers in the state.
The government had also stated it would also refurbish the existing consumer forums at division and district levels in the state.
