5 civilians injured in firing at Awantipora

AWANTIPORA: An encounter between militants and government forces started at Dogripora village of Awantipora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday evening. Sources said two HM militants were hiding in a residential house in the village.
Official sources claimed that after specific information about the presence of militants in the area, a joint team of Army’s 55 RR and SOG cordoned the village, and as the government forces started searching houses, the militants opened fire on them and the forces retaliated.
Five civilians were reportedly injured. Some near the encounter site and others near the Jamia Masjid Awantipora. The encounter was continuing till last reports came in, and the injured were shifted to Bijbehara hospital, later, some of the injured were shifted to SKIMS Soura.
The injured have been identified as Iqra Jan (12) daughter of Mohammad Rafiq Dar resident of Lethpora Awantipora and 17-year-old Owais Ahmad Dar son of Mohammad Yusuf Dar resident of Dogripora, Mushtaq Ahmad, Raheel Ahmad and Parvez Ahmad sources told Kashmir Reader.
