Will opt for alternate trade routes if Udhampur-like attacks continue: Geelani

SRINAGAR: The Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani Monday cautioned of launching an agitation to press for opening of the alternate and natural trade routes of Kashmir.
“It seems that the Udhampur attack was aimed at disturbing our economic condition by blocking the only trade link of Kashmir. If such incidents continue, we will opt for the traditional trade routes,” he said in a statement
He thanked people for observing a complete shutdown against the Udhampur attack on Kashmiri truck drivers and said the strike was “a clear message against the communal forces”.
“Today’s complete shutdown is a clear message to the communal forces that their hooliganism is not going to be tolerated in any ways and the whole nation is against their evil designs,” Geelani said.
Geelani said: “The Kashmiri nation is struggling for their basic and birth right and to divert our attention from our freedom struggle, the fascist forces of India are creating new issues every day; sometimes by engaging us in cow slaughtering issue and sometime by allowing Qadiyanis to hurt the sentiments of Muslims.”
Meanwhile, Syed Ali Geelani has expressed concern over the arrest of Muslim League and Hurriyat Conference activists Hakeem Showkat and Mehraj-ud-din Nanda (Hajin).
“If anything untoward happened with these activists, it will have very serious consequences,” he said in a statement.
Geelani said police have arrested them on baseless charges and both are shifted to unknown location.
