SRINAGAR: Idarah Mohsini Aalameen International, a non-profit organisation, organised a daylong conference on Sunday on the role played by Mir Syed Ali Hamadani (RA) in the transformation of Kashmiri society.
The speakers at the conference, which was held at the SKICC, various speakers, including Justice (retired) Bashir Ahmad Kirmani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Mufti Bashir-ud-din highlighted how Hamadani influenced Kashmiri society.
In the 15th century, the Sufi saint visited Kashmir and played a pivotal role in the conversion of the people to Islam besides introducing most of the handicrafts Kashmir is known for in the world.
Syed Ashraf Indrabi, a noted scholar, said the saint converted more than 35,000 people, who formed a big chunk of the population then.
“His contribution towards the Valley is unprecedented. He abandoned a luxurious life only to uplift the people here through Quran and Sunnah. In him we should find our role model,” Indrabi said.
The speakers also said there is a need for collecting all works related to Hamdani’s life for posterity.
General secretary of the organisation Zaffar Ahmad Makhdoomi said, “The aim of this conference was to highlight the contributions of this great Sufi and to learn from them. This conference was a success and we will organise such events in future as well.”
Aalameen International, Makhdoomi added, was formed this year to organise such conferences and help the needy. He said 30 members of the organisation regularly contribute to it and fund its activities.
