Proposal for community bunkers in border areas sent to MHA

SRINAGAR: The government on Friday said in the Assembly that it has paid about Rs 20 lakh compensation to border firing victims during the current year and has sent a proposal to home ministry for construction of community type bunkers as shelter for them.
“An amount of Rs 20.19 lakh has been paid as ex-gratia/compensation to the firing victims along the International Border and Line of Actual Control (LoAC) during the year 2015,” the chief minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed said.
He said a proposal regarding the construction of community type bunkers at various places along the International Border/LoC has been sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs, GoI for its consideration.
The chief minister while giving district-wise details of the compensation paid said: “The government paid Rs 10.19 lakh to firing victims of Jammu, Rs 1.20 lakh each to Samba and Kathua while as Rs 7.60 lakh has been paid to Poonch victims.”
