Mufti trusts JK police over CBI

Srinagar: Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said on Thursday that the state police was more “reliable” and “authentic” than the premier investigating agency, Central Bureau of Investigation.
“To clear your doubt, I must tell you our police are more reliable, transparent and authentic than the CBI. You must repose faith in your own police force,” said Mufti in reply to a query raised by CPI (M) legislator MY Tarigami, who wanted the CBI to take over the investigation into a case of a mysterious death in Jammu.
Mufti said the police would conduct a transparent and time-bound inquiry into the case.
He also directed the DGP to assign a special police officer to probe the case. However, Tarigami said the family members of the deceased woman did not trust the police because of police inaction.
“The police are trying to cover up case,” he said, while waving an application of a relative of the deceased victim.
