SRINAGAR: In order to provide adequate surgical facilities to health institutions and to avoid the forcible referral of patients to private hospitals, the government Friday said it has put in place suitable facilities in all the district hospitals and community health centers of the state.
“Requisite infrastructure, machinery, equipments and manpower has been provided in the district hospitals and majority of the community health centers (CHCs) as per their status,” Minister for Health and Medical Education Ch Lal Singh said, in reply to a query, in the Assembly.
He said the deficiency, if any, is met within a phased manner depending upon the availability of resources. “Over 1.17 lakh major and 5.48 lakh minor operations were performed during 2014-15 in government health institutions,” he said.
Singh said the patients requiring surgical procedures which are beyond the scope of CHCs or district hospitals are getting referred to the next higher government health institution.
“Majority of patients prefer government hospitals for medical consultation and surgical procedure due to their vast presence, availability of suitable infrastructure and qualified manpower while as the private clinics/hospitals are limited to cities/towns,” the minister said.
