Govt rebuts its own claim on liabilities by NC-Congress regime

SRINAGAR: The PDP-BJP led government on Friday rebutted its own claim on liabilities left by the NC-Congress government in the state.
While it had been projecting the liabilities of previous government at Rs 9000 crore, the government informed the House that Rs 7437.49 crore liabilities were left by the previous dispensation.
In written response to a question by BJP’s Satpal Sharma in the Upper House, the Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu stated that total liabilities at different treasuries when PDP- BJP government took reigns was pegged Rs 2437.49 crores with and Rs 5000 crore liability on purchase of power from different PSU’s.
Chief Minister Mufti Mohmmad Sayeed in June this year during District Development Board meetings of Rajouri and Poonch had said that they have inherited liability of over Rs 9,000 crore, including Rs 3,000 crore on account of works executed without tendering and adhering to codal formalities (by previous NC-Congress government).
Drabu further stated that liabilities at treasuries are being cleared on daily basis depending on the resources availability with Rs 16,817.17 crores being disbursed till September 15.
However it said that payments on account of GP fund, purchase of power, contractors liabilities are being regulated as per availability of resources.
