Srinagar: Minister for Agriculture Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura on Friday said the government of India sanctioned a Rs 564.77-lakh project for exploring tourism potential along the Mughal Road.
Replying to a question from Zafar Iqbal Manhas on behalf of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in the Legislative Council, Hanjura said the project was sanctioned in 2013-14.
He informed that the project “envisages creation of tourist-related infrastructure along Mughal Road by way of providing facilities like cafeterias, budgeted accommodation, restaurants, public conveniences, and visitors’ interpretation centres”.
The minister said there is no proposal at present for the development of tourism-related infrastructure at the Shadab Karewa village in district Shopian.
However, he said, development works should be taken up in future in a phased manner, subject to feasibility and availability of resources.
Showkat Ganai and Ajatshatru Singh raised supplementaries to the main question.
