Video journalist among two injured in Nowhatta clashes

Srinagar: At least two people, including a video journalist have been wounded in the clashes between government forces and pro-freedom demonstrators in Nowhatta area of the Old City here.

The clashes, witnesses said erupted after police tried to stop a group of boys from taking out a pro-freedom rally from the historic Jamia Masjid, after the congregational Friday prayers were over. Besides shouting pro-freedom and pro-Islam slogans, the protesters threw stones at the police deployments.

The forces burst teargas canisters after they failed to disperse angry protesters with batons. In the ding-dong  clashes, two people, including a videographer have been reported hurt, witnesses said.


The injured video journalist Firdous Ahmad of News X was removed to Gousia hospital for treatment. He was hit by a stone in head. More details emerging
