SRINAGAR: As many as 1,626 teaching and non-teaching posts are vacant in various colleges and schools of district Srinagar, the government said on Thursday.
While 1,141 posts are vacant in the schools, 485 posts are lying vacant in the colleges of the district.
Minister of Education, Nayeem Akhter in reply to a question by MLA Eidgah Mubarak Gul in the Assembly, said that over 730 posts of teachers are lying vacant in schools in district Srinagar out of which 78 are lying vacant in schools of Eidgah.
While as 319 posts of teachers are lying vacant in colleges in district Srinagar out of which 45 are lying vacant at Government Degree College for Women, Nawakadal.
Nayeem Akhter said that there are 29 primary schools, 18 middle schools, 3 high schools and 2 higher secondary schools in Eidgah.
He also said that in district Srinagar there are 343 schools functioning in the rented/private buildings for which an amount of Rs 107.81 is paid annually.
Replying to a question, what steps have been taken by the government to fill up the vacant posts, the minister said, the department has undertaken exercise for referring the vacancies under direct recruitment quota to the recruiting agency for filling up the posts expeditiously.
He also said those vacancies falling under promotion quota shall be filled up through departmental promotion committees.
