No Shikara license issued since 2009

SRINAGAR: The government on Thursday said it didn’t issue any license since 2009 for running Shikaras in Dal Lake.
Replying to a question from MLC M K Ajatshatru, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development Nirmal Singh said in the House that the government issued 3,600 Shikara licenses to boatmen in Dal Lake, but none since 2009. To a question about rehabilitation of shikarawals, the minister replied, “J&K LAWDA is developing a colony at Rakh-I-Arth Bemina for the displaced Dal dwellers.”
The minister, however, ruled out any possibility of the government setting up a separate colony for shikarawals.
