SRINAGAR: Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD), Choudhary Zulfkar Ali, on Thursday said that steps are being taken to “further streamline” the supply of rations in the state.
Replying to a calling attention notice by Sat Pal Sharma in the House, the minister said CAPD “is aiming to further streamline supply of rations and several steps are being taken in this regard”.
He said the CAPD department has been providing rations to consumers on regular basis, while the supply gets “disrupted sometimes” due to delayed release of funds and non-availability of transport.
He said various reasons, including restrictions on traffic movement within Jammu Municipal area, resulted in slow pace of grinding of wheat into whole meal atta by roller flour mills.
Under TDPS programme, the department has initiated a district-wise lifting of food-grains from FCI godowns, dispatching of rice to the main CAPD stores, and issuing food-grains to the sale outlets for further distribution, he said.
