SRINAGAR: Fourteen departments of the sate have been placed under the Panchayats for their functioning, the government informed the Assembly on Thursday.
Minister for rural development, Abdul Haq Khan said that the funds and functionaries of these departments will be monitored by the Panchayats. This step has been taken to strengthen the role of panchayats in the state, he said.
The departments include agriculture development, animal and sheep husbandry, education, horticulture, revenue, social welfare, industries and commerce and public works.
He also said that Jammu and Kashmir Panchayti Raj Act, 2014 has been enacted in the state “to bring in the broad features of 73rd Amendment Act in the State Act”.
