Opposition parties stage walk out to protest BJP MLAs assault on Rashid

Srinagar: Opposition parties staged a walk out from the legislative assembly to protest the assault on independent legislator Sheikh Abdur Rashid by the BJP MLAs.

The members of the opposition parties, including the National Conference got up from the seats and walked out of the house to protest the assault on Engineer Sheikh Abdur Rashid, Independent legislator from Langate constituency, who was assaulted by BJP MLAs for holding a beef party on Wednesday.

The assault also evoked sharp criticism and condemnation from Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayed and NC working president Omar Abdullah.

“This is Gunda gardi. You can’t interfere in our religious affairs,” an angry Omar said, adding “Liquor and pork is haram in our religion but that doesn’t give me license to stop other members of this house to have it,”
