SRINAGAR:Kashmir Royal Star’s Vijay Dogra hit a towering six off the final ball of the match to inflict an agonising two wicket defeat on Elegant Strikers in their last pool match of the Khyber Big Downtown Champions League season 2015 at Kashmir University ground here on Wednesday.
Kashmir Royal Stars needed just 12 to win in their last over. It came down to the wire after Nadeem Dar conceded 8 runs from his first 5 balls.Dar hit three sixes and a boundary in his 15 ball 26 unbeaten innings.
Setting a total of 131 to win, opener Niyaz made a watchfull 38 before Shahrukh (3 for 24) and Nadeem (2 for 25) forced an absolute collapse and left Stars suffering at 84 for 7 in the 15th over of their innings.
Niyaz hit three boundaries and a six in his run a ball 38 while Rouf Bisati also played a cameo of 13 runs and helped Stars to book their place in the qualifier round after topping the Pool B table with 12 points.
For Strikers Omer Nabi also took two wickets while captain Owais Shah chipped in with one. Earlier Strikers won the toss and batted. Opener Javeed Mir played a magnificent innings of 70 runs before Vijay Dogra (3 for 20) bowled him out. He hit eight boundaries and a maximum in his 53 ball innings. Captain Owais Shah also played well anchored 17 runs and helped Strikers to post a modest total of 130 for 6 on board in allotted 20 overs.
For Stars, Aslam Bhat also took two wickets, while Saleem chipped in with one. Vijay Dogra for his brilliant all-round performance was declared man of the match.
Meanwhile Mirza Gladiators joined Alhamza Super Kings and HK Stars in qualifying for the Khyber Big Downtown Champions legue T20 playoffs from pool (A) with a nine-wicket win against team Ahmad Resorts at Kashmir University ground here in the 2nd match on Wednesday.
Chasing a small target of 92 runs captain Obaid Haroon led form the front with an unbeaten 53 in just 36 balls. Together with Farhan Sofi (21 not out) the pair put on 62 to see their side to their fifth win in seven pool macthes without either player having to take risks.
Obaid hit six boundaries and a maximum in his innings while Farhan hit two huge sixes in his quick 15 ball innings. None of the Resorts bowler succceded in taking a wicket as the only wicket they celebrated was in way of a runout of Imran Haroon (16).Earlier Resorts won the toss and batted. Captian Sagar (20) with opener Imran Dar (9) played beautifully for a 45 run stand for 2nd wicket before Raman Dutta was introduced into the attack.
