Srinagar: The government has engaged about 500 youth as special police officers (SPOs) since March this year.
As per the statistics revealed by the government as many as 498 SPOs were recruited by the Police department. “In Srinagar 139 youth were engaged as SPOs followed by the district Anantag in which 121 were recruited,” chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said in a written reply to a question raised by the independent MLA from Langate, Er Abdul Rashid.
Further, the CM said, in Baramulla 38 youth were engaged while as 22 youth from Budgam district were engaged in the department.
“Further, from Kupwara,12, Handwara,10, Ganderbal, 7, Kulgam, 5, Sopore,4 , Bandipora, 3, Shopain,3 wnd rest were recruited from Pulwama,” he added.
“Two persons were recruited from Police district, Awantipora,” the reply said
The number of personnel from Jammu province engaged in the department is 31 followed by Rajouri which has 15. “Kathua and Poonch have 9, Reasi – 7, Kishtwar – 6, Doda – 6, Samba – 3 and Ramban has only one.”
It also said that 22 SPOs have been engaged in Railway Police, 10 in Armed, 4 in CID, one each in Traffic, Crime Branch J&K, Police Training Centre Manigam and Police Control Room (PCR) Jammu.
The Director SSG, J&K has 9, it added.
