Police officer injured in Bandipora attack dies

Srinagar: A police officer, who was critically wounded in a militant attack in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, has succumbed to his injuries at a hospital here.

Sub-Inspector Altaf Ahmad, who was injured in a militant attack in Gund Dachin area  of Bandipora this afternoon, succumbed to his injuries at the army’s Badami Bagh hospital here, a police official told Kashmir Reader.

Ahmad had received multiple gunshots in the shootout. He succumbed to his injuries shortly after he was airlifted to the army hospital here.

The deceased officer was a tech savvy and headed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the police that investigates the use of technology by the militants.

Meanwhile, Srinagar based news gathering agency GNS reported that the police officer along with two of his associates was chasing militants when he came under heavy fire from them.  Among the militants were Lashkar’s commander Abu Qasim, it reported.
