Kupwara gunfights: Army continues searches

Baramulla: The army continued a massive search operation for the second day on Tuesday in Hafrada forest range of Handwara, where four of its soldiers were gunned down by militants on Sunday night.
Hundreds of soldiers, policemen, paramilitary troopers assisted by helicopters and sniffer dogs searched for the militants, who are believed to be four to five in number.
Defence spokesman Lt Col NN Joshi said so far the army has not located the militants, adding the bodies of the deceased soldiers have been sent to their native places for last rites.
The army also carried out searches in Lolab, where they had claimed that an unidentified militant was killed in a brief gunfight on Monday morning, suspecting there might be other militants hiding in the area.
