JK to have food-grain sale, purchase centres in ‘potential’ districts

SRINAGAR: The government on Tuesday said centres for sale and purchase of food-grains will be set up in all “potential districts” of the state.
“Well-equipped selling cum purchase food-grain centres (mandies) would be established soon in all potential districts of the state, besides upgrading existing mandies for timely and hassle-free procurement of grains from farmers during the upcoming procurement season,” the Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali said, as per a handout issued here.
He was chairing a high-level meeting here to review and work out modalities “to facilitate” farmers during the upcoming procurement season in the state.
Zulfkar constituted a committee under Director CAPD, Jammu, with Director Agriculture and General Manager Food Corporation of India (FCI) as members, to identify “feasible location for establishment of new selling and purchase outlets in green areas of the state”.
He directed the concerned procurement agencies to visit the markets for ensuring that farmers do not face any difficulty in selling their harvest.
